Apparently “Barack the Magic Negro” was just another inside racist joke among the Republican National Committee until recently. Rush Limbaugh played it on his radio show in 2007. Long before then the myth of Rush’s second brain cell had been exposed as a hoax. So his antics were not taken seriously.
